Events at LIU

When I first entered to the school of education at LIU, I noticed that they always prepare for various events. I was lucky enough to be part of organizing a big number of these events. I changed my major from biology to early childhood education in the spring semester of 2015-2016 and I didn't know anyone in the education department so I had to to do something in order to break the ice between me and my colleagues; as a result, I registered my name in each and every event I heard of where most of the times I felt that there is a gap between me and others. after several events I had some friends that changed to be my best friends! In this article I will be talking about the events that I participated in with LIU people.

Brunch:
I would love to start talking about the Brunch because I think it was one of my favorite events at LIU and I feel proud to be part of such charity activity. For those who don't know what the Brunch is, it is an event prepared by each and every member in the Education department where we prepare homemade food, sweets and beverages in addition to some games and fun activities then we sell our products for university students and school students as well. The spirit of cooperation, love and helping others motivates every one to participate. As some of you know, we gather money and donate them for Dar Al Hanan Orphanage.

Spelling Bee:
Is there an animal which is more hardworking than a bee? I guess not! Because we are future English teachers, we believe that spelling is very important and having challenging competitions is thrilling. Spelling Bee events were prepared for school students from different age groups; they start with written exams then the judges choose the schools with the highest scores to compete orally. It is really fun and challenging at the same time because we tried to spell the words with the contestants.

Special Needs Day:
I think one of the most overwhelming events at LIU was the day of people with special needs: the opening ceremony was very touching and filled with mixed emotions because of the scenes that were done by AL Basira Organization for blind people. We were introduced to some of the purest hearts then we spent the day with them.

Other than these events, we organized events such as "مسابقة الإملاء و الإعراب", " Arab Feminist Conference, Reshaping Teaching Practices Workshops and Education Day.  The common thing between all of the events was the great spirit that was spread among the members; this spirit was inspired from the deans Dr. Rasha Halat and Dr. Wassim Abu Yassin in addition to all of the instructors. I'm really happy that I am a part of the Education department and would love to keep on participating in the events!
